British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy chooses Civica to support its 50,000 members with learning and CPD resources
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is the largest professional body for members of the counselling professions in the UK. With its vision - ‘counselling changes lives’ - BACP champions the counselling professions and its members’ expertise, works to raise professional and ethical standards within the field and offers training, development and networking opportunities to members.
At a time of increasing mental health concerns, BACP has chosen the Civica Learning Management System (LMS) to equip its 50,000 members with the learning and continuing professional development (CPD) resources they need. BACP is at the forefront of the effort to support people through its network of counsellors. It works to develop their competence and knowledge, as members strive to improve psychological wellbeing and mental health.
To enhance the value it provides its members, BACP sought to expand its learning offering beyond its existing video-based resources. After a competitive selection process, BACP selected Civica as its partner to deliver its new combined learning and CPD platform.
Rebecca Gibson, CPD and Online Resources Manager at BACP said, “Our members’ learning doesn’t finish when they qualify as a counsellor or psychotherapist. We work alongside them throughout their careers to provide the opportunities they need to learn, develop and uphold the highest professional and ethical standards.”

Throughout the selection process the Civica team were very supportive. They were able to demonstrate, not simply talk about, how their solutions can meet our needs. Knowing they’re partnering with other membership organisations, in the development of their solutions, shows their commitment to supporting their customers now and into the future.
Civica Learning will provide BACP with a modern learning and CPD platform, where members will have access to a wide range of new and existing learning content - including eLearning courses, microlearning, animations, video and audio recordings, and event presentations - equipping members with the knowledge needed to work in a fast-changing world, where they can contribute to the wellbeing of society.
With Civica Learning, BACP will replace its current paper-based CPD processes. Automated CPD recording within Civica's LMS will ensure a member’s CPD journal reflects their learning activities and is always up-to-date. BACP members will also be able to record learning undertaken outside of the platform - including work-based or self-directed study, attendance at lectures, presentations, seminars and conferences - and upload evidence and reflections.
