Over the past two years, government departments have risen to the challenge of transforming digital public services.
They have been guided by the 'Transforming for a Digital Future: 2022 to 2025 Roadmap for Digital and Data', which sets out an ambitious vision, seeking to improve operational efficiencies and provide better outcomes for citizens.
One year ahead of the finish line, Civica partnered with Total Research on a third annual survey of UK senior civil servants, to assess progress against the roadmap’s goals and pinpoint any barriers to delivery.
While government departments have already achieved a great deal, our findings point towards the need for urgent action in several areas which are critical to citizen-centred innovation and digital transformation.
Data quality and integration, cross-departmental collaboration and ethically deployed AI technologies will be integral to delivering advanced digital services that better serve citizens and reach new heights of productivity and efficiency.
With the introduction of a fresh vision for digital and data, built around a strengthened Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the government has a generational opportunity to set a new global benchmark for innovation and efficiency.
