Joining the dots: Amazon partners with Civica on fresh insight into connected devices
- Latest Perspectives* volume highlights the huge public sector benefits from IoT
Civica’s new Perspectives* report, Connect to the future: Connected devices. Connecting communities, examines the untapped potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) and how the ‘tech-celeration’ of society is increasing adoption and opportunities.
Released in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the report highlights the latest innovative thinking and leading examples of connected devices in action.
From smart hospital beds and protecting front line police, to predicting depression in students and controlling air quality, connected devices have the potential to improve the quality of life for everyone.
Martin Bishop, Chief Technologist UK Public Sector at AWS commented: "The range of potential applications is vast. I personally find it exciting to see organisations building IoT solutions with us addressing the likes of environmental sustainability, improved health care, vulnerable citizen support and enhanced public safety.
Liz O'Driscoll, Head of Innovation at Civica added: "Connected devices are now ubiquitous. So many more people are using smart devices and wearables for their own personal health insights, while devices in cities are busy collecting data on everything from air pollution to traffic flow.
“But we're still using connected devices to enhance existing products and processes, rather than rethinking them. If we can find ways to connect data to create a full ‘internet of us’, we'll maximise the benefit for public services and the citizens who use them.”
Connect to the future is the fifth Perspectives* volume: a highly regarded series which expands on the latest thinking from Civica’s innovation lab, NorthStar. Previous reports include opinions from innovators and leaders around the world on conversational artificial intelligence, machine learning and immersive tech.
